Peace First Stands With President Obama on Gun Control

PEACE FIRST STANDS WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA IN SUPPORTING SAFER SCHOOL CLIMATES AS PART OF NEWLY UNVEILED GUN CONTROL PLAN

“At Peace First, we believe that leadership - like peacemaking - requires courage, compassion and the ability to engage others to create change. The President and the administration exemplified tremendous leadership by convening nonprofit leaders to discuss ways to create safe and peaceful communities and by unveiling “The President’s Plan to Protect our Children and our Communities by Reducing Gun Violence”.

Peace First is honored to have been invited into this pressing national conversation at the White House.

As an organization, we have 20 years of experience in teaching peacemaking to students and creating school environments where peacemaking is an integral part of school culture. We are encouraged, and heartened, by the President’s Plan which includes an important message about how to prevent violence in our schools: the need for safer and more nurturing school climates that reward positive behavior and devote resources to training school staff in proven strategies. We support the Administration’s plan to develop a school climate survey to help schools implement effective policies.

Peace First commends the President for taking a stand for safety and are prepared to work with our colleagues in the field to exchange ideas and spark new dialogs so that, together, we can begin to shift our nation’s culture from one of violence to one of peace.”
