By Memory Tapela Banda, Founder of of The Zambian Albinism Matters Organization

my name is Memory Tapela Banda. I am a human rights defender, education activist, and young peacebuilder. I am the founder and Director of an organization that promotes peace and security for children and youth with albinism and other disabilities in Zambia, as well as access to inclusive education. I am passionate about preventing violence and all forms of gender-based violence (GBV), and about ensuring that children have access to inclusive education.

My work in promoting peace and security for children with albinism and other disabilities in Zambia has made a significant impact in the local community. I have collaborated with various organizations and stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of protecting children and youth with disabilities from harm.

Through my efforts, I have also helped to advance inclusive education for children with disabilities by providing resources and support to schools and educators. This has enabled more children with disabilities to access quality education and has helped reduce the stigma and discrimination they often face.

One of the things that motivates and drives me is the belief that every child deserves to live in a safe and secure environment, and to have access to education regardless of their abilities. I am committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children with disabilities in Zambia, and I will continue to work tirelessly to achieve this goal.

In addition to raising awareness and promoting inclusive education, I established a library in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I am now building a safe space for children with disabilities in Zambia. This space is designed to be a place where children can come to learn, play, and socialize in a safe and supportive environment. The library offers a wide range of resources, including books, games, and educational materials that are accessible to children with disabilities. The safe space will also serve as a shelter for children and youth experiencing violence, neglect, or homelessness.
