Advocating for Justice, Peace, and Education: My Journey with Full-Circle Learning Uganda
I am Ruphin Kungwa, a passionate advocate for justice, peace, and education. Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, I currently consider Uganda my home, residing in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement. My life’s mission has been shaped by my experiences and commitment to representing, defending, and empowering others in order to amplify the voices of the voiceless and protect the rights of marginalized individuals.
Through my work as the Executive Director and Lead Facilitator at Full-Circle Learning Uganda, I strive to create meaningful change by addressing the root causes of conflict, inequality, and educational gaps within my community.
Growing up in an insecure area, I personally witnessed the devastating effects of injustice and conflict. These experiences motivated me to dedicate my life to facilitating communication, understanding the law, and advancing dispute resolution as means of achieving lasting peace. In the future, I aim to expand my work, reaching more communities with programs that combine education, justice, and peacebuilding. I envision a future where individuals are not just passive beneficiaries of aid but active contributors to their communities, breaking cycles of dependency and fostering resilience.
In Nakivale, where diverse cultures and stories intersect, my work focuses on creating opportunities for individuals—especially youth and educators—to embrace their roles as leaders and change agents. At Full-Circle Learning Uganda, I lead initiatives that engage teachers, students, and parents in holistic educational programs. These programs integrate character development, environmental sustainability, and community service, transforming education into a tool for building harmonious and just societies. One of my contributions includes the establishment of “Stride for Peace,” a platform advocating for conflict resolution through dialogue. This initiative equips community members with the tools and knowledge to address disputes constructively.
I face many challenges, from limited resources to societal norms and lifestyles. However, my commitment to my vision remains unwavering. These challenges have only strengthened my resolve to work tirelessly for a world where everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, can access opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.
